Prospect Park is one of New Jersey's most compact boroughs, fitting a densely settled residential community, neighborhood businesses, a Pre-K–8 public school and a substantial municipal recreation complex into less than half a square mile.

Prospect Park at a glance
Prospect Park uses New Jersey's borough form of government, with a mayor and six-member Borough Council. Borough Hall is at 106 Brown Avenue.
North 8th Street and Haledon Avenue carry much of the borough's neighborhood retail, dining, healthcare and service activity. Planning work has also focused on strengthening the North 8th Street corridor as a community center.
Borough code prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption either on or off premises. Prospect Park's dining guide therefore does not list bars or liquor stores as local alcohol sellers.
Paterson, Haledon, North Haledon and Hawthorne directly border the borough, putting additional shopping, transit, schools and attractions just beyond municipal lines.
Prospect Park School serves local children from Pre-K through grade 8 at 94 Brown Avenue. The district reports enrollment of more than 700 students.
After eighth grade, public-school students attend Manchester Regional High School in neighboring Haledon, which also serves Haledon and North Haledon.
Hofstra Park & recreation
Hofstra Park, beside the municipal complex on Brown Avenue, is Prospect Park's primary recreation destination and supports both organized programs and everyday neighborhood recreation.
A seasonal splash area is part of the borough's reservable recreation facilities.
The municipal facility includes a lighted turf soccer field used for organized sports and recreation.
Basketball, tennis, baseball/softball and other active recreation facilities are grouped at Hofstra Park.
The park includes a reservable pavilion/grill area for approved gatherings and community use.
Current borough recreation offerings include youth sports, Camp Hofstra, martial arts, pickleball and basketball programming.
Residents and organizations should use the borough's current recreation portal and municipal rules for field, court, pavilion and spray-park reservations.
History & borough identity
Prospect Park was incorporated as a borough on March 13, 1901, from portions of Manchester Township. Its small geographic footprint helped create the dense street pattern seen today, where residences, houses of worship, local businesses, school facilities and municipal recreation sit within a short distance of one another.
